Dave won one of the highest awards at this year's Mobo Awards, and his second record "We Are All Alone Together" won the best album.

Little Simz, also a rapper, won the Best Female Award for his excellent album "Sometimes I May Be Introverted".

Grime legend Ghetts brought his first Mobo back to the Best Male Award 16 years after the release of his groundbreaking debut 2000 & Life.

"I didn't even expect this to happen," he said. "It's really a journey."

Sunday’s award ceremony was held at the Coventry Arena, marking the first face-to-face Mobo award ceremony since 2017. The show was interrupted for two years in 2018, and last year's awards were actually distributed due to the pandemic.

Bree Runway succeeded in bringing the event back to life, speeding up on the red carpet on a motorcycle, and then rushed to the stage to perform her aerodynamic performance of her single Hot Hot.

Rapper Pa Salieu also had an outstanding performance. He brought the popular songs Frontline, Glidin' and My Family to the enthusiastic hometown crowd; and the new rap singer Enny, she provided a powerful empowering national anthem, Peng Black Girls.

Drilling music occupies an important position during the year, and the genre won the first UK singles chart, which is a mix of Tion Wayne and Russ Millions' Body.

That song won the Song of the Year award, and London rapper Central Cee won the best practice performance award-a new category for this year's awards.

This recognition indicates that the exercise is no longer associated with gang violence (the type originated in Chicago and was originally named after a slang term used to denote fighting or revenge between rival gangs).

Central Cee was also named the best newcomer and is known for his melodies and sometimes emotional distortions in ominous beats.

"We are still independent and we have not signed an agreement yet," he said when he won the first award of the night. "I think this is very special in itself."

"The cultural impact of [exercise] is huge," Mobo founder Kanya King said before Sunday's ceremony. "We have seen progress and can recognize this remarkable artistry.

She added: "We believe that music and art can be a platform for improving lives."

The event was hosted by Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock and comedian Munya Chawawa, who were dragged down by a tedious script.

This allowed their co-host Eddie Kadi (Eddie Kadi) to steal the best line of the night.

After the Afroswing band NSG performed on stage, he joked: "If you don't like that, then go for the Covid test, because loss of taste may be one of the symptoms."

The award also recognizes reggae, jazz, gospel and R&B music, and sets individual awards for each category.

Wizkid of Nigeria won two awards, the Best International Performance Award and the Best African Performance Award; and the small axe star Michael Ward won the Best TV Performance Award.

The 2021 Inspiration Award is awarded to former heavyweight boxer Frank Bruno for his work in promoting understanding of mental health issues.

But many winners were absent-including Dave, whose best album award was strangely announced in a one-off montage of "Other Awards tonight".

The highlight of the ceremony will be broadcast on BBC One on Wednesday, December 8th at 22:35 GMT, as well as backstage footage that has not been seen before.

Central Cee: "I don't know how I feel about the awards ceremony. I don't know if it really excites me. But if there is someone I admire and accept the awards, it is Mobos. So, thank you very much."

Little Simz: "I'm in a dream, I've always dreamed. [So] anyone who is watching this and has a dream to pursue-it's yours, always. Go get it."

Ghetts: "I always imagined this moment and thought I would say,'No, man, forget everyone who doesn't believe [me],' wait. But this moment is more important than that. It's about people who do believe , The person who accompanies me all the way."
