Nuts & Bolts-in the Democratic campaign: it's okay to be a man

Welcome back to the nut and bolt guide for small weekly events. I have written about rest during exercise and why I think it is important. Today I want to talk about rest and relaxation, and what they can offer potential voters when candidates embrace them.

Tranquility is not a complete rest, but it is a way to humanize yourself and the voters in your area. People see candidates as untouchable figures, different from them in a way, they lead different lives and have different experiences. Every cycle, people will try new campaign ads to make candidates look like someone the community can reach or at least admire.

You can also send another message, which is not just about relevance or heroes. This is about being a person. Stacey Abrams understands debt, and when people in her community are in trouble, she points out that she has also struggled with debt. Republicans certainly want to humiliate her for the debts in her life, but the reality is that many Georgians can understand-they are also struggling with their debts and knowing that they are not alone, which makes Abrams a People, a candidate they can involve. After she ran for governor, Abrams took advantage of this correlation when raising funds to help her fellow Georgians get rid of the severe medical debt that caused many families to make difficult choices. Being a human being is an important part of establishing contact with voters.

Jermaine Wilson is my current city council representative and won the most votes of all candidates in the "top three" election. He is also the former mayor of Leavenworth, Kansas, where I live. The community is known for its prison and conservative roots. election? It is not particularly close.

What makes Jermaine stand out? Of the six candidates who participated in the election, three won, including Jermaine. Unlike the other two candidates—they were candidates running with a strong pro-Trump agenda under the support of the Republican Party—Jermaine participated in his own campaign, emphasizing who he is as a person and why. The government is very important to him as a person. He told a story of human salvation.

Before Jermaine became mayor, before becoming a candidate, he was a person facing a very human challenge. Jermaine was convicted of taking drugs when he was 11 years old and was later convicted of trading. Service time changed his life.

He proved to the community that this change, this act of salvation, made him a human being, and he understood the changes that may occur in communities like Leavenworth. Now, Jermaine and I don’t always agree on all issues, but the story here is important: Americans don’t need you to be a hero. They don't need your candidate to be the perfect neighbor. Know your shortcomings and accept them? Voters like this-it recognizes that all of us have a chance in the United States.

Just kidding, but be real.

The election campaign for the US Senate in Georgia is the difference between the leadership of the Democratic Party in the Senate and complete deadlock or anti-Biden control. It includes no judges, no policies, and possibly the real chicness of cabinet officials. Instead, Pastor Warnock launched a campaign that focused not on making him perfect, but on humanity. When he was treated unfairly and talked about them publicly, he led the moment in his life.

Most voters who watched this ad did not have this experience. For many people, this may put them in an uncomfortable situation. This is still an opportunity to say, "We can do things well together. Do the right things with me, and we can complete it."

At the same time, he accepted the humor of the campaign by refuting the attack, as if saying: "Look, at some point I realized that this is all ridiculous noise."

Be a man. Sometimes, mocking the opponent's apparently false appearance is a good way to resonate. Everyone has experienced a bully in their life. They want a neighbor they have never met, or an in-law, a family member, or a strange cousin that you want you to ignore. Sometimes getting people to laugh at how absurd politics is, and pointing out that we should be okay with laughing, can be a very powerful message.

When a joke does come up, it's hard for the campaign to respond bitterly.

Talk about difficult topics. It's ok.

Many candidates are afraid to discuss difficult topics. Ill-treat the ex. Lost a family member. The conviction of a family member. abortion. Infertility. Lost a child. There are a few issues that are not election issues. They will never be a voting issue. Unfortunately, they may be used against you during election campaigns. If the opposition knows that your brother stole a car when he was young, own it and talk about why you love your family and hope that he can find salvation and recovery. If they challenge you due to drunk driving while in college, you will talk about the wrong decisions you made and what you learned from them. frankly speaking. If you can, please discuss these issues first, and then your opponent will do so, so that they will not be taken into account and cannot be used against you in the future.

If you think your opponent can use it against you, talk about it first. When you are a person who will face a lot of decisions in life and not all of them can be resolved, don’t let others define you.

Being human is A-OK. Let others define you as doing something that "normal people" would not do before you can talk about it? This is more difficult to circumvent.
