Over the weekend, ten Albert Lea wrestlers headed to Iowa City to participate in the Dan Gable Donnybrook Championship.

Donnybrook is composed of 32 teams, 13 of which have entered the national level, and is known as one of the most difficult high school wrestling matches in the Midwest. As a team, the Tigers finished 13th and four people stood on the podium at the end of the game.

Albert Lea's highest individual finishers were Mike Olson and Logan Davis, ranking fourth in the 106-pound and 113-pound weight classes, respectively. Cameron Davis ranked sixth with 145 pounds, and Nick Coman ranked eighth with 145 pounds.

Olsen successfully broke into the quarterfinals in his first game with a needle in the second round and a needle in the third round of the second round. After entering the semi-finals, Olsen maintained a continuous on-base in the case of a fall in the second quarter, thus entering the semi-finals. He lost the game by a slight margin of 3-2 in the semifinals, and then in the third game he lost another point 4-3.

Logan Davis, who weighs 113 pounds, also won his first three games easily. Logan Davis won with a 16-0 technical error in the first round, 13-4 in the second round, and 8-2 in the quarter-finals. Logan Davis was tripped in the semifinals and lost the game 7-2. He also gave up the third place game in a 6-4 decision.

Cameron Davis won his first two games with a 50-second turnover in the first round, and won 10-2 in the second round. Due to an injury to his opponent, he was defeated by the knockout in the quarter-finals and then advanced in the consolation group. In the fifth place game, Cameron Davis lost the game by a small margin of 6-4.

Coleman quickly declined in the first round and then made a 2-0 decision in the second round. Koeman lost the game 5-3 in the quarter-finals, stumbled again in the consolation group, and lost the major decision 10-0. He lost the seventh place game in a 9-1 major decision.

The Tigers also wrestled with the 120-pound Brody Ignaszewski, 132-pound Aivin Wasmoen, 138-pound Carter Miller, 152-pound Triton Cox, 170-pound Luke Moller and 182-pound Kadin Indrelie.

The Tigers will appear on the mat again this weekend, when they will go to Maple Grove to participate in a tournament.
