A Camp Hill hair salon has outgrown its current facility after five years and will be moving to Lower Allen Township in the spring.

Roots Hair Salon is moving from its current facility at 244 S. 17th St. to a larger location at 3804 Gettysburg Road.

Roots Hair Salon experienced a boom in business when COVID-19 restrictions were lifted last spring.

“It was a flood,’’ Owner Andrea Smith said in a new release. “We had a lot of new clients too, because other stylists had shut down or they couldn’t get appointments.’’

Smith said during the shutdown, she hired 10 additional salon assistants because she knew the business would need help doing extra laundry and cleaning. And she says since people have been working from home, weekday appointments have increased.

Roots also offers nails, waxing and lash services, along with barbershop services.

The salon is a family business. Smith’s son-in-law, Tyler Hockenberry, runs the salon’s barbershop on the first floor. Daughter Abbie Hockenberry, is a stylist, daughter, Hannah Snyder, is a nail technician. Her son-in-law, Noah Snyder, handles the salon’s webpage, and Smith’s great-nephew, Caleb Hill, handles scheduling and the front desk.

Smith previously owned the Chez Andre salon, which is adjacent to the new location.

Smith is selling the three-story building on 17th Street. A buyer would have the option of purchasing existing salon equipment if desired. If the current building is sold before the business relocates, Smith said Roots would lease back the building from the new owner until they are ready to move. RSR Realtors is marketing the property.
