From new denim structure, weight and washing to measures taken by factories worldwide to reduce impact, Rivet’s SS23 Quarterly: Denim and Trim has everything needed for a successful denim season.

With more live shows being held and more participants crossing national borders, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks have been the closest to pre-pandemic normals since 2019.

The rich denim on the runway adds to the familiarity. From the use of denim as the basis for bolder designs, to fragmented, decorative and deconstructed individual pieces, universal fabrics are the most concerned part of the Spring/Summer 2022 collection.

Fendace, the hottest collaboration brand this season, has launched some of the most iconic denim looks. In the Versace and Fendi mix and match, Donatella Versace and Fendi women's art director Kim Jones swap roles, featuring patchwork denim miniskirts, low-waist pants, bra tops, shorts and jackets. The double logo, oversized belt buckle and bright pink exude the typical Italian style of this series.

Denim entered the main line of Versace, inspired by the silk scarf of the fashion company. "The square is an essential part of Versace's tradition and characteristics," said Donatella Versace. "It is our iconic printed canvas. There are many ways to wear it, from knotted tops to headscarves to bag accessories. This is a way to add a Versace attitude to any look." Similarly, the Italian brand Etro uses patterned fabrics as a patchwork detail for long denim vests and casual jeans with drawstring waistbands. The fabric is closely connected with the suit jacket and accessories.

Philipp Plein has no shortage of colors and decorative denim. The designer paired soft jeans with crystal-embellished skull sweaters, and layered novel patches on distressed and whiskered jeans. The stitching structure used by Marine Serre adds depth to the pink and purple tones of jeans and tunic jackets. Loewe's deconstructed denim jacket and matching balloon hem skirt are presented in indigo and over-dyed brown. The same fabric is used for backless dresses with molded metal corsets.

Although compared with previous seasons, tie-dye colors have fewer colors, but the dyeing effect and bleaching add youthfulness to Weinsanto's lace-up denim tops, long skirts and balloon pants. Extreme tearing also affected the runway, which can be seen on the jacket and cropped jeans of Dsquared2 and the flared jeans of Ludovic de Saint Sernin. The frayed hem enhances the dynamics of Annakiki's denim dress made of layered ruffles.

Thanks to Blumarine's denim butterfly top and low-rise jeans, the Y2K era of denim has emerged on the catwalk. The brand also produced suspender skirts and mini skirts with denim printed chiffon. Metal trim adds charm to Genny's polished dark denim pieces. At the same time, GCDS's crystal-embellished light-washed jeans, denim shorts and mini dresses are full of pop princess breath.

MSGM mixes casual denim with retro floral and plaid prints to create a summer atmosphere. Short cardigan and puff sleeve tops are paired with casual jeans and casual flip-flops. Denim suits-tank tops and shorts-are decorated with multicolor floral appliqués on the neckline and top of the pockets.

As a practical advanced version, the Safari reference is filtered into the female series. The flap pockets on Elisabetta Franchi's sleeveless denim dresses and fitted denim jackets are accentuated by denim and leather handbags and multi-compartment belt bags.

Although designers have put forward sharp references and themes, loose jeans and double denim suits still maintain a trend-setting position in London, Milan and Paris, and seamlessly integrate with the collection.

The head-to-toe denim looks twice as easy as a woman's relaxed uniform. Act N.1's long jeans feature a front yoke detail. Petar Petrov's work clothes include simple denim shirts-some with flap pockets on the chest-and carpentry jeans. Similarly, Bally displayed the same washed work jackets, shirts and cropped jeans.

Vintage washed jeans and long shorts add a rock element to the maverick tulle Molly Goddard doll top. The low-rise wide-leg jeans attached to the model's feet are a match for Missoni's crop top. Valentino continues to focus on wearable and related luxury items in white shirts and blue jeans.
