Moxon Architects completed Brent Cross Town’s public participation visitor pavilion as part of a proposed £7 billion redevelopment project in the area

The pavilion that won the plan last year will receive all public participation in the early stages of the project, providing space for visitors, project teams, residents, and the wider community.

It is the first building to open in a 70-hectare development led by Argent Related and the Brent Council. It is the gateway to Claremont Way and marks the entrance to the new store and restaurant cluster in the temporary park.

The exterior of the pavilion is composed of exposed wood, nested in the surrounding green open landscape. The gabion base supports two floors and is covered with soft tones of larch and zinc. Moxon's recyclable wood frame pavilion is manufactured off-site and designed for a circular economy-for example, its steel spiral piles are designed to be demolished and reused.

In front of it is a planting area designed in collaboration with Townshend Landscape Architects.

Inside, a large glass wall establishes a connection between the inside and the outside, forming the landscape of the new landscaped park to the west. The ground floor space is used for exhibitions and events, and is lined with natural wood. Adjacent to the arrival area is a cafe with outdoor seating to the south.

The open-air observation deck on the top floor gives visitors the opportunity to watch the project unfold.

The design of the gallery space in the center of the scheme was led by dn&co, which transformed the brand developed for Brent Cross Town into a spatial narrative. Echoing the architecture of Moxon, the space contains three large trees, which surround a large manor model and a series of bases made of Valchromat palette to form an internal void covered with a dense cork. .

Brent Cross Town has about 20 hectares of parks and sports fields. New Park Town will provide 6,700 new houses, 280,000 square meters of office space, student dormitories, restaurants and sports and leisure facilities. It is directly connected to central London through its own New Brent Cross West Station, which is already under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.

Providing a visitor pavilion for Brent Cross will require a close coordinated collaborative effort, especially since the design and most of the construction was carried out during the lockdown period at the height of the Covid 19 pandemic. Wood is mainly used as a structure, finish, and weathering material, helping to sequester carbon in the building structure and define the appearance of the building. Every aspect of this building has been carefully designed for long-term durability and easy reuse in the future; whether it is adapting the structure to other uses, or demolishing and reusing valuable materials to construct a new building. The principle of circular economy governs every stage of the design and specification process, off-site manufacturing minimizes waste, and recycled materials are incorporated into substructures and building envelopes. Tim Murray, Director of Morkson Architects

The opening of the visitor pavilion is a very exciting milestone in the delivery process of Brent Cross, and we look forward to welcoming locals into this space. It outlines our vision that the new town is an accessible, sustainable, and amazing building that can serve the local community as well as the future residents and occupiers of our new community. Nice project Moxon. However, if the construction cost can be included in such a project, even if it is only calculated in square meters, it would be better and very helpful. Some clues.
