Dangling electricity wires cause inconvenience to the general public and pose a threat to their lives. - File photo

Be careful of lurking danger

The dangling power cables in various parts of the city are posing a risk to many. People can lose their lives if they come in contact with these wires. Several cases have been reported in the past also. But the authorities concerned have failed to wake up from a deep slumber. Even animals and birds are at the highest level of risk. For the problem of hanging wires, the guilty must be punished. This amount of negligence must be punished.

Situation becomes worse in monsoon

Dangling electricity wires are posing a risk to people in various parts of the city. Several cases of electrocution have been reported in the past few months, a garment shop in Ludhiana had faced this sort of problem. The situation becomes worse during the monsoon. People lose their precious life only because of electrical wires which are in turn hanging loosely above the heads of people. The government can maintain a proper construction and design of electrical system which can save the precious life of several people. The government can consult trained electricians and also provide them with proper equipment to handle the problem.

Waiting for tragedy to happen

Irrespective of repeated requests and complaints by residents of Ludhiana city the problem of dangling wire still persists. The problem can be resolved if special attention is given during the monsoon season to the electric wires hanging from electricity poles, in streets and roads, particularly in congested localities of the city, posing a serious threat to residents. But the authorities concerned are in deep slumber and waiting for the tragedy to occur. The Electricity Department should come forward to put all electricity wires underground and all cable operators should be issued an instruction to put cable underground otherwise their license be terminated.

An open invitation to mishaps

Loosely hanging overhead cables, wires in the city are posing a serious threat to both pedestrians and people on vehicles. The problem cannot be left untreated. Uncovered wires hanging loose can be spotted at several areas in the city. It’s an open invitation to several road accidents. Every monsoon witnesses electrocution deaths. The erratic power supplied mostly at irregular timings is one of the main reasons for electric shocks resulting in more number of deaths. Preventing measures should be taken by the authorities concerned.

Punish those negligent in duty

Yes, electrocution should amount to criminal negligence. Authorities concerned should take proper steps to combat the problem. Electrocution cases have been increasing day by day. Official should be concerned about this so that life of any person can be saved. Punishment should be given to those who neglect their duty. This will provoke the authority to be well aware of their duties.

Dangling wires can cause fire

Yes, the officials concerned are responsible for dangling electricity wires. These wires are posing a risk to people in various parts of the city. The temperature of the wires can be high enough to cause a fire. Administrators must resolve this major issue. We must pay attention and be careful from the hanging wires.

Right time to wake up, repair wires

This is most unfortunate it is horrible that in a smart city like Ludhiana in various parts of the crowded city we come across hanging wires. The sight of such wires gives a very shabby look. Even such places poses a threat to human beings. A number of fatal accidents have happened in the past and some people have died by the current in the wires. All this has happened but the authorities did not bother to take a timely action. People feel this is not proper on the part of administration, it is now the right time to wake up from the deep slumber to repair the wires and save the lives of the people.

The entwined, curled and dangling electrical wires here and there act no less than tinderboxes in our country whereas in countries like Netherlands and Germany most of the electrical power supply is underground. Such countries understand that the high percentage of underground cables contribute to the very high grid reliability. We should get awakened and learn from them.

Use modern tech to lay wires underground

To save the general public from electricity exposure hazards, it is desirable to put all wiring in the streets underground. The AAP government had promised that it will shift all the open and hanging wires underground. The PSPCL charges heavily for giving new connections or for increasing electricity load at any place and it must spend a small part of it on laying out wires underground instead of in the open. With the modern tools and machinery available now, it has become very convenient, inexpensive and easy to lay out the wires underground. The PSPCL must follow it.

Dangling electricity wires are posing a risk to people in various parts of the city. Several cases of electrocution have been reported in the past, but the authorities concerned have failed to wake up from deep slumber. The concerned officials should be held responsible for this criminal negligence. The administration should immediately take appropriate action against such officials and make strategy for repair of such dangling wires as soon as possible.

The problem is far more pronounced in city. There are several stretches where wires are not insulated. Ideally shift them underground but for the meantime insulate them properly. Underground laying of wires in unauthorised colonies could be a possible solution. It would be a major milestone in improving civic conditions.

Strict action need of the hour

Dangling electricity wires poses a serious issue for city residents. Additionally, it raises the danger of delivery vans and school buses of catching fire. Despite several complaints, nothing is being done to address this problem, which demonstrates the level of disregard for citizens’ safety on the part of the authorities. Numerous strict actions are required in order to shake the authorities out of their deep slumber. Whoever is at fault should be subject to severe fines and penalties.

Act tough against the offenders

Dangling electric wires in residential areas are a threat to the lives of the people. The authorities concerned must be made responsible for the negligence on the issue. All wires must be insulated and special techniques should be adopted by the MC for laying of underground wires. Moreover, strict action should be taken against the internet service providers and cable operators who leave the electric wires open and carelessly while taking connections from electric poles.

Fasten wires with poles Properly

Heavy vehicles such as trucks, tractor trolleys etc. pull down the dangling wires after coming in contact with them, leading to mishaps and power outages. Powerful gusts of wind also damage the wires. These should be properly fastened with poles to avoid any untoward incident.

Fix responsibility of officials concerned

There is no need for a harsh action like criminal negligence, but yes for sure there is a need to fix some responsibility, so that the public may not suffer. As the rainy season is going on and these dangling wires pose a serious threat in such wet weather conditions. The chances of electrocution become bright is this type of weather. Therefore, the authorities concerned must rise to the occasion and take some concrete steps to safeguard the lives of the citizens. Area-wise duties should be allocated with written orders so that the responsibility for any lapse can be fixed. Regular check-up of the service lines is a must.

Loosely hanging overhead cables and wires at major junctions and roadsides in the city are posing a serious threat to both motorists and pedestrians. However, the department concerned has failed to address the problem. This is not a new issue it is a very old one which has not been resolved and now it’s high time. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has also ruled that preventing the sagging of electricity cables and electrocution was the responsibility of the authorities concerned, failure to do so amount to negligence. The negligence should amount to criminal negligence and the person/official concerned should be held responsible else we would have to face major consequences.

Several poles on the verge of collapse

Electric wires dangling in bunches from electric poles and also lying on the roads in various parts of Ludhiana are posing a severe threat to residents, pedestrians and commuters. Also cables, including internet wires are causing trouble on the roadside. In many localities, overhead wires are not insulated and many poles are on the verge of collapsing posing a great risk to the residents. But the authorities concerned seem to be in a deep slumber and are waiting for more tragedies to happen. Many people have lost their lives in the past due to lackadaisical attitude of the officials. The PSPCL officials must ensure that the live wires are immediately insulated or replaced before the onset of monsoon. Also, the overhead lines must be changed to the underground. Preventing sagging of cables and electrocution is the sole responsibility of the authorities concerned and failure to do so amounts to criminal negligence.

In each nick and corner one may find exposed and dangling wires which may pose a serious threat to the lives of residents. There may be various steps which the MC may take to ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of street lights and dangling wires. First, all the wires, electricity and cable wires must be underground. Second, the responsibility must be fixed on the councillor of their respective areas. Third, contractors should also be held responsible if such a problem of dangling wire exists. Fourth, the MC should form a cell ward to check and report to the electricity department if any problem of dangling wire is there.

Uncovered wires hanging loose can be spotted at several areas in the city. At many places, even wire joints are lying uncovered and can cause an untoward incident. Such ignorance of officials make the residents feel that these are an open invitation to fatal incidents. The Electricity Department must take immediate steps and also assure that the regional electricity division to respond to the complaints of the area. On the other hand, residents should have to file a complaint to the JE of that particular area regarding it. In case of inaction, the department must take action against them.

Remove wires no longer in use

The mismanagement of electricity wires in areas as crucial as residential ones amounts to negligence on the part of the authorities concerned as it could cost the lives of people and action must be taken against them for their utter failure in performing their due diligence. As is their sole responsibility to tuck all the live wires properly and timely detach and dispose the wires that are no longer in use. Thus, ensuring public safety and avoiding any mishaps.

Could lead to short circuits

As the monsoon season is going on, the electric wires that are hanging are very dangerous for the small kids and even for the local people. Even after so many complaints to the councillor of our ward no action has been taken. The officials are very much responsible to repair the dangling wires. The PSPCL must make the wires tangled in one place. Even if after many complaints the officials do not repair the dangling wires then it could be considered a criminal offense as well. The dangling wires could lead to short circuits which could cause damage to property.

Address issue on a war footing

Dangling electricity cables are a common sight throughout the city. Not only does it endanger people’s lives, but it also puts property in peril. This concern multiplies during the monsoon since the likelihood of short-circuits doubles due to moisture in the air. In general, electricity cables on poles are strung out a little loose so that they do not snap in the winter due to contraction. However, when unsecured wires sag further due to expansion in summer, they become dangerous to everyone around. The PSPCL officials must awaken from their slumber and address the issue on urgent footing before a catastrophic tragedy occurs. Negligent officials should be held accountable.

The recent spell of rain has once again exposed the ill-preparedness of the civic body and negligence on part of Municipal Corporation officials to tackle the waterlogging problem in the city ahead of the monsoon season. What steps should be taken by the MC to check the problem?
