Struthers-73-year-old Samuel Michael'Sam" Lofaro Sr., from Struthers, died on the afternoon of Thursday, November 18, 2021.  

Sam will always be remembered and missed by everyone who knows and loves him because of his smile, generosity and broad heart.

He was born in Youngstown on June 9, 1948, the son of Santie Dominic and Ann (Trombetta) Lofaro, and a lifelong resident of the area.

Sam graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1966 and then studied at Youngstown State University, majoring in social work.

Sam started his career in the concrete industry after graduating, and then worked as a heater for the Republic Steel Company for more than 30 years; he retired in 1997. While working for the Republic Steel Company, Sam joined the US Air Force on May 1, 1967, and proudly served our country during the Vietnam War. He obtained the rank of first-class pilot, and his military career is the Air Force police. Sam was awarded the Good Behavior Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, and he was discharged from the army on March 8, 1969.

Sam has many hobbies in his life. He likes watching old westerns and Ten Commandments movies. He also likes to travel to the climber racetrack, where he particularly likes betting on horse racing. He likes to cook on the grill, especially making barbecue ribs with his brother Joe. Sam always looks forward to spending time with his family, especially during Christmas, he will play Santa Claus for his family and friends. He also has a large collection of baseball cards and has been a big fan of the New York Yankees since he was 9 years old.

Sam stayed to preserve his memory; he married the former Valarie Shanabarger (Valarie Shanabarger), 33, who married on November 18, 1988, and his daughter Sarah Lofaro of Youngstown (Sarah Lofaro) ), he has a special connection with Austintown’s son Samuel Michael Lofaro III and his mother Ann Lofaro, the three sisters, New Middletown Sandra Nail of Boardman, Kathy (John) Zalovick of Boardman and Kathy (John) Zalovick of Youngstown, two brothers of Brookfield, Joseph F. (Marion Short-Steele) Lofaro and Ronald (Karen) Lofaro of Canfield, his mother-Struthers Law Ethel Shanabarger, and many nieces, nephews, cousins ​​and friends. 

Sam's father, Santie Dominic Lofaro (Santie Dominic Lofaro) is a triplet baby; Samuel Michael Jr., Steven Matthew and Scott Morris Lofaro and his brothers; Michael Lofaro.

Family and friends can pay their respects to Sam at the Rossi and Santucci Funeral Home (4221 Market St., Boardman) from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. 

The prayer ceremony will be held at the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home at 10:15 am on November 24, 2021 (Wednesday), followed by the Christian Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Angela Merici Parish, 397 S. Jackson, Youngstown , Hosted by Father Kevin Peters.

The funeral will be held at the Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown, with military honors provided by the great men of Ellsworth VFW.
